Renegades of funk

He mentions Thomas Paine, Martin Luther King, and Malcolm X. Zach de la Rocha admires that they we're rebellious against society. Them standing up for what they believed in brought great change to world. They we're renegades of their time.

A day without technology

I really expected it to be easy to not have technology for only one day.. i was so wrong. When I woke up in the morning it felt so weird not turning on radio since that's what I do everyday. I lasted through out the school except in photography class because we use computers everyday, but other then that i lasted.. until I got home. The t.v. was right there and I couldn't help myself. I find it sad that I rely on technology so much, I don't see how they did it back in the day..

Podcast of Thoreau

1. The host views Thoreau as if his books are part of the founding scripture of the nation. He challanges citizens to the question of what kind of society we want to live in. A person who thinks by him self.

2. Kathryn Todd views Thoreau as writings are important and move towards American History. Strong influence over America. She also thinks there are ways in which he is blind, and unfeeling. His worse sin is that he cares nothing about community. She wonders why he is giving me advice when no one even gave him advice. Can't analyze him calmly. She sees him as selfish.

3. The advantages of living your life like Thoreau are being considered a strong person who does not need to rely on others.

4. Some disadvantages are there would be no way we can understand and help each other, no self-reliance. People older them him have never given him good advice. He's anti-community. People start not liking you because some view hi as so in to himself.

Bradbury's writing style

1. -"I'm antisocial, they say. I don;t mix. It's so strange. I'm very social indeed. It all depends on what you mean by social, doesn't it?" (p.29)

2. Her face was like a snow-covered island upon which rain might fall, but it felt no rain; over which clouds might pass their moving shadows, but she felt no shadow.

3. "Burn all , burn everything. Fire is bright and fire is clean"Page 60

4. "My family is people. They tell me things: I laugh, they laugh! And the colors!" page 73

5. "Does your 'family' love you, love you very much, love you with all their heart and soul, Millie?" page 77

Bradbury's words seem to be repetitive. He also uses a lot of metaphors.

banned books

The general reasons books are banned is because of the language used, sexual content, the use of God's name in vain, degrading a certain race, and more. This shows that people can't really face reality. Situations in these books really do happen, so what's wrong with reading about it? I've only read three of the books on the list, but knowing that so many books are banned makes me want to read them, and see what the controversy is all about. If I didn't read the books that I read, my education would be affected because they are all very great books that opened my eyes wider to the world.

1. What is wrong with Lady? What is the treatment? How much will
it cost to treat her?
Lady has chronic renal failure. The treatment is a transplant, and it will cost $15,000.
2.What kind of person is Shawn Levering, her owner? How can you
tell?
Shawn Levering is probably a guy just getting by in his life. You can tell by the way he talks about his family, and where he lives.
3.What kind of person is the veterinarian, Cathy Langston? How
can you tell?
Cathy Langston says that it's not worth it, so she doesn't seem like that much of a loving person.
•4.Why do you think Shawn is willing to pay for Lady’s treatment? Is
he the kind of person you would expect to pay for high-cost treatment
for a pet?
Shawn does seem like the type of person willing to pay for lady's treatment. He loves Lady so much, and she is worth any price to him.

section 3-shawn and his wife treat their pet more as family, then an animal.

last meow

Pets aren't a big part of my life. I do not like to have pets because it is really sad when they die, and i'm horrible at taking care of them. I don't know why i'm so when it comes to pets so i'd rather just not have any. I have a few friends that care a lot about their pets, and would go crazy if they lost them or died.

thesis statements

-John Procter, Elizabeth Procter, and Abigail all have there reputation misrepresented in some way. Each one was being accused of witchcraft or lies to protect ones name.

-Reverend Parris, John Proctor, and Rebecca Nurse were the epitome of Salem's morals during the witchcraft trials. Although they all honored their reputation, they each had a different way of upholding their reputation

-The importance of one's reputation was strongly represented throughout the story to such an extent of doing what they believe

is best in order to keep their good name.

All three of these thesis statements are very strong. They get straight to the point. I can improve my thesis statement by not making it so plain.

embedding

"She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me!" (Pg. 23-24)

*She is telling lies about me

"I am innocent as the child unborn, but surely, what sin hath God found out in me unrepented of, that He should lay such an affliction on me in my old age."

*I am innocent as the child unborn

vocab review

The first day of school led to the last day of three kids lives. Yaquiline, the (lothario), Yessica, the (maverick), and Yanessa, the (nemesis) of Yaquiline. On that day, they expirienced a (philippic) between each other in english class. It started fine, they all sat down in class while Mr. Schreiber introduced himself and the class. They figured out he was a (jingoist), because he was wearing a red, white, and blue tuxedo. But after seeing that, they realized who was amongst them. . . the infamous “Y Ladies.”
Yaqualine, and Yanessa, hated each other because Yaqualine took a bite of Yanessa’s Spicy Chicken Sandwhich, which led to Yanessa calling Yaqualin (tawdry). Yaqualine, or “Yaquie”, stated that as a (philanderer), she slept with Yanessa’s boyfriend. Yanessa’s previous view of as a (quixotic) young girl, immedietly went away.
One day Yessica came to school and yelled at Yanessa and Yaqualine using (solecism), Yessica couldn’t say anything because she felt (saturnine) beacause of all those spicy chicken burgers that she ate. Yaqualine didnt really care because she was a (procrustean), she was tired of arguing. So the rivalry between Yanessa and Yaqualine came to an end. Many people say it was a (Pyrrhic) victory, because even after the arguement, they still were not friends.
But the wierd part of the story is, why didn’t Yessica get involved? She has the (spoonerism) of words that confuses the Y Ladies to death. But recently she found the Y Ladies (protean) and (unbearable). She could have won this arguement and be the number one Y lady and live in (sybarite) for the rest of her life!!

Situation I would die for.

If my little brother was about to die and I could be the one to die instead of him, I would. He's only 7 and hasn't gotten a chance to really live life yet. I'm young but I've experienced more then him. So yea, If a situation like that were to happen, I would die for it.

project

I really liked this group project. Our group worked really well together, and the outcome was better than I expected. Something we could have done differently was worked on it longer before the day off the performance, but it still was fun.

Rumor...

My friend "eddie"told me that "sally" had gone missing, and that it was on the news that morning. Sally was a girl that went to our school last year so i was like "woah i know this girl, this is crazy" At first I didn't believe him, but he said he was positive. It turned out to be another "sally" that i didn't know.. but she really did go to our school. They ended up finding her though.
I'm not sure if that's really a rumor, but that's the closest thing to it that I can think of right now aha.

The Crucible

I had this really great friend throughout elementary school, someone I thought I could completely trust. I told her one of my BIGGEST secrets and this girl who was also a good friend of hers told her that i was "talking about her behind her back". I definitely wasn't, but the girl who lied did not like me. For some reason my friend believed her and she treated me horrible. She ended up saying my big secret in the cafeteria really loud so almost everyone heard. It was really hard for me to look at her the same. It seriously took a whole year for us to at least become friends again, and even when we did, things weren't the same.
